What to expect, and how to look after it.
Filler is placed in minutes, but the result settles over about two weeks. You leave with full written aftercare, and you can message us if anything is on your mind. Individual experiences vary.
The first 24 to 48 hours
It helps to avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas, steam and direct heat, and to leave makeup off the area for the first day. Sleeping slightly elevated the first night or two can ease swelling. Keep the area clean, and avoid pressing or massaging it unless we have shown you to.
Swelling and bruising
Some swelling, tenderness or bruising is normal, and lips in particular tend to swell most in the first day or two before settling. This is why we suggest not judging the final result, or booking a top-up, until around two weeks. Individual experiences vary.
How long it lasts
Lip filler often lasts around six to twelve months, and structural areas such as cheeks can last longer. Duration depends on the product, the area and your own metabolism. If you have an event, we would rather treat you a few weeks ahead than the week of. Individual results vary.

Can I have lip filler if I get cold sores?
Yes, in most cases, but let us know at consultation if you are prone to cold sores. Because a lip injection can occasionally trigger a flare in people who carry the cold sore virus, Rhianna Beckford may suggest timing your appointment for when your skin is settled, or antiviral cover beforehand. Can dermal filler be dissolved or corrected?
Yes. One advantage of hyaluronic acid filler is that it can be dissolved or adjusted. If you have previous filler you would like softened, corrected or removed, we offer a filler dissolving and correction consultation. Because dissolving uses a prescription-only medicine, it is assessment-led and arranged after a consultation rather than booked directly. Suitability is confirmed first.

Is dermal filler safe for darker skin tones?
Hyaluronic acid filler is injected, not light or heat based, so it does not target melanin the way some laser or energy devices can. As with any injection there is a risk of bruising, and in Fitzpatrick IV to VI skin any trauma carries a risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation, so technique and aftercare matter. We assess your skin and history at consultation and use a careful approach to reduce that risk. Individual results vary.
