An eye serum, honestly

Most people who reach for it look tired in the mirror: puffy in the morning, shadowed under the eyes, with fine lines that make-up settles into. Some of that is skincare-addressable and some of it is not, and it is worth knowing which. Puffiness from fluid responds to caffeine and dipeptide-2; the look of fine lines responds to peptides and, more so, to a retinal; and skin that is thin or dry looks better hydrated.

What it will not do is change dark circles that are structural. A hollow under the eye casts a shadow, and pigment in the skin itself, which is common on deeper skin tones and often inherited, does not respond to caffeine. For those, a skin assessment tells you what is realistic, and sometimes the honest answer is that nothing topical will do much.

On deeper skin tones, the under-eye is one of the areas most likely to darken from rubbing and irritation, which is why a fragrance-free, essential-oil-free serum applied gently, and never dragged, is the right kind of product for it.

Dipeptide-2 and hesperidin methyl chalcone: A peptide and a citrus flavonoid derivative that together are used for the look of under-eye puffiness and shadows.
Acetyl octapeptide-3: A signalling peptide (an extended version of acetyl hexapeptide-8) studied for the look of expression lines with steady use.
Acetyl tetrapeptide-5: A peptide used in eye formulas for the look of puffiness.
Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7: A signalling peptide studied for the look of fine lines and texture.

How to use it

Morning

Cleanse and apply your usual serum and moisturiser.
Put half to one pump of Eye Serum on a fingertip.
Dab, do not rub, under the eyes and out to the outer corner, along the orbital bone.
Finish with SPF over the eye area.

Night, optional

After your night cream or retinal, as the final step. ESK: it can be used morning and night.

Technique

Use your ring finger and the lightest pressure. Dragging the under-eye skin is what darkens it over time, especially on deeper skin tones.

Starting out

Patch test on the inner forearm for 24 to 48 hours if you react to most things. Keep it off the lash line.

What to expect, and when

First use: A light serum that absorbs quickly with a soft brightening finish. Morning puffiness often looks less within the first few uses.
2 to 4 weeks: The under-eye area looks fresher and better hydrated; make-up sits better.
8 to 12 weeks: The point to judge fine lines from the peptides.

Does it help dark circles?

It helps the look of dark circles caused by fluid or thin, dry skin: caffeine, dipeptide-2 and hesperidin are the usual ingredients for that. Dark circles caused by a hollow under the eye, or by pigment in the skin itself, do not respond to a serum, and an assessment tells you which you have.

Does it help puffiness?

Yes, for the look of it. Caffeine and dipeptide-2 are the ingredients used for morning puffiness, and many people see a difference within the first uses. Persistent swelling has other causes and is a GP conversation.

Does it help fine lines and crow's feet?

The peptides are studied for the look of fine lines with steady use, over 8 to 12 weeks. For lines as the main concern, a retinal on the orbital bone and Ageless Patches twice a week do more.

How do I apply it?

Why does it look slightly tinted?

It contains CI 77891 (titanium dioxide), a mineral pigment that gives a soft brightening finish under the eye. It is not a concealer and does not change your skin colour.
