Clapham SW4 · what we observe from this catchment

Three things Clapham residents commonly ask before they book.

Pre-summer scheduling, plainly. Clapham patients often book a course of laser hair removal with summer events in mind, Clapham Common Bandstand programme, holidays, weddings. Hair growth runs through anagen, catagen and telogen phases and laser is only effective during anagen, so a typical course runs as six to eight sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Starting in late winter is the most realistic way to be through the course before mid-summer; a late-spring start usually means the course continues into autumn. Individual results vary.

The clinical concern for melanin-rich skin is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, not the laser itself. Clapham SW4 has a meaningfully Fitzpatrick IV-VI resident base. The relevant risk for laser hair removal in darker skin is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), not the device per se. A 2019 systematic review and meta-analysis in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology found that long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG was associated with a lower PIH odds ratio than intense pulsed light (OR 0.26, 95% CI 0.10 to 0.78) in Fitzpatrick III to VI (Dorgham and Dorgham, 2019). A 2025 Sudanese cohort study of 55 women with Fitzpatrick IV-VI treated with low-fluence 1064 nm Nd:YAG reported no adverse events and no paradoxical hypertrichosis (Mahmoud et al., 2025). For this reason we default to 1064 nm Nd:YAG for darker tones, with wavelength and fluence selected at patch test. Outcomes may vary by individual skin type, hair type, treatment area and protocol adherence; PIH risk is reduced but not eliminated.

Routes from Clapham SW4. The 137 bus is the most direct from Clapham Common northbound to Lavender Hill / Battersea Library, approximately twelve minutes. From Clapham North, the same route takes around eight minutes; from Clapham Junction southbound, approximately six minutes. On foot from Clapham Common, the walk via Cedars Road to Lavender Hill is approximately fifteen minutes. Session durations are typically 20 to 35 minutes depending on the treatment area.

Pricing, as listed on Treatwell. Single sessions start at £30 (upper lip). Course-of-seven pricing on a course basis works out to £30 per session for upper lip and from approximately £140 per session for full legs, with course discounts shown in full on Treatwell. Why Clapham chooses Melatone

Three things every Clapham laser clinic should be doing.

01

The right wavelength for your skin.

Most Battersea and Clapham laser clinics use Alexandrite or Diode-only platforms. For Fitzpatrick V and VI, that is the difference between a clean result and a burn. We use 1064nm Nd:YAG as the default for darker skin tones, with 808nm Diode for medium tones and 755nm Alexandrite for the lightest. We choose at patch test.

02

VTCT Level 4 delivery, supervised by a GMC-registered clinician.

Catia Zaki holds the VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and IPL Treatments, specialising in Skin of Colour. All laser work is delivered by Catia under the clinical supervision of Arman Zaki, our GMC-registered clinical lead. Read Catia's full bio.

03

Patch test, every time.

£10 patch test before your first session, regardless of where you have been lasered before. We use it to confirm your Fitzpatrick type, settings, and tolerance. It is also a 20-minute consult with Catia, where you can ask anything before you commit.

Why a Course of 7?

One extra session beyond the industry standard.

Our clinical protocol for Battersea skin , particularly Skin of Colour where hair follicles cycle slower , includes one additional session beyond the industry-standard 6 to ensure full clearance across all four hair growth phases.

Course of 7 is our Signature for a reason: it’s the minimum protocol we’d recommend on ourselves.
