Enlighten Gold

A lightweight pigmentation moisturiser for day and night. It combines 4-n-butylresorcinol 0.3%, niacinamide 5% and gluconolactone 3% (a PHA) at pH 4.75 to 5.25, and is designed to help reduce the appearance of pigmentation and uneven tone.

A tone-evening ingredient, often shortened to 4nB, that works on tyrosinase, the enzyme in the pathway that makes pigment. ESK lists Enlighten Gold as suitable for all skin types, including deeper skin tones.

ESK explains that pigmentation can look darker before it looks lighter, because the skin around it changes faster than the patch itself. Keep going with daily SPF, and message us if it is still darker after a couple of months.

Yes. In the morning, apply a vitamin C serum such as C Forte first, then Enlighten Gold, then SPF.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant studied for brightness and the look of uneven tone, and it works on a different part of the pigment pathway from 4-n-butylresorcinol, which is why the two are often paired in the morning.

Retinoids support the look of more even tone and smoother texture, and they pair well with a tone-evening cream. Ultimate A Gold uses retinal, a vitamin A one step closer to the active form than retinol. Retinoids are not for use in pregnancy.

ESK does not recommend using Enlighten Gold at the same time as hydroquinone. If you have been prescribed hydroquinone, follow your prescriber's plan and ask them before adding anything.

It already contains gluconolactone, a gentle PHA. If you add a stronger acid, introduce it slowly and watch for irritation, which on deeper skin can itself leave marks.
