Which London clinics offer laser hair removal for men?
Melatone Skin Clinic in Battersea, London SW11, treats men on the same SmartDiode MD laser platform as every other patient, with a £10 patch test first. The most requested areas are beard and neck, full back, shoulders and full body. Men with darker skin are treated with the 1064nm wavelength. Laser is delivered by Catia Zaki, VTCT Level 4 laser practitioner, under the clinical oversight of Arman Zaki, GMC-registered Physician Associate. The clinic is a 10 to 14 minute walk from Clapham Junction and treats men from across London.
How much does laser hair removal for men cost in London?
At Melatone a full face and neck course of 7 is £700 (£100 a session), a full back course of 7 is £980 (£140 a session), Shoulders are £406 for a course of 7 (£58 a session) and Full Body is £1,750 for a course of 7 (£250 a session). A patient's first laser course is half price when paid upfront, so a first full face and neck course is £490, a first full back course is £700 and a first full body course is £1,225. Single sessions are £140, £200, £80 and £350 respectively. Every course begins with a £10 patch test that is deducted from the course.
Does laser hair removal help razor bumps and ingrown hairs on the beard?
Often, yes. Razor bumps (pseudofolliculitis barbae) happen when curly or coarse hair curls back into the skin after shaving and sets off inflammation, which on darker skin also leaves dark marks. Laser reduces the hair that is doing the curling, so over a course there is less hair to become ingrown and fewer new bumps. It does not remove marks or scars that are already there; those are assessed separately. Individual results vary.
Can men with dark or black skin have laser hair removal?
Yes. Laser hair removal is suitable for all skin types, including Fitzpatrick V to VI, when the right wavelength and settings are used. For darker skin we use the 1064nm wavelength, which reaches the hair follicle while sparing more of the surface pigment, and every course starts with a patch test at the settings we intend to use. Coarse, dark beard and body hair is exactly the hair laser works best on.
How many sessions do men need?
A course of 7, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, is our standard course because laser only affects hair in its active growth phase. Men's hair is often coarser and denser, and hormone-driven areas such as the back, shoulders and chest can need occasional maintenance afterwards. We set realistic expectations at consultation and track progress with photographs rather than promises.
Can I keep a beard line and only treat the neck?
Yes. Tell us whether you want the whole beard reduced or only the neck and cheek lines cleaned up. The treatment map is agreed at consultation and marked before each session, so a defined beard edge can be left untouched while the areas that give you razor bumps are treated.
Does it hurt, and can I shave between sessions?
Most men describe a hot flick against the skin. Contact cooling runs throughout the session and the patch test tells us how your skin and your tolerance respond before the first full treatment. Shave the area 24 hours before each session and keep shaving between sessions if you want to. Do not wax, pluck, thread or use hair removal cream for at least 4 weeks before a session, because laser needs the hair in the follicle.
Do I need a patch test first?
Yes, always. The £10 patch test is a small test area at the settings we intend to use, 24 to 48 hours before your first full session, with a consultation and skin assessment on the same visit. It is deducted from the cost of your course. Book it on Treatwell or by WhatsApp.
